At the upcoming local elections in May, we will be fielding two new candidates.

Two of our long-standing councillors will be standing down at the next election. Jill Bray has been one of our local councillors for 19 years and served as our mayor in 2020/21. Sadly, she has moved away from the area and therefore is unable to remain as a councillor. Bob Harper will also be leaving after 22 years on the Council. He is the longest serving councillor at the Borough of Reigate and Banstead .

Both will be missed, and we wish them a happy and probably much quieter future life!

Two members of the TPRA’s committee have agreed to stand at the May election as Residents Association candidates to replace Jill and Bob. They are Tim Snuggs and Barry Nash.

Tim Snuggs lives in Great Tattenhams and is a retired police officer. He spent 30 years with the Metropolitan Police Service, much of that time in London’s West End CID with the last twelve years as a detective in the Murder Squad.

He is Vice Chairman and Poppy Appeal organiser for  the Banstead and District Branch of the Royal British Legion. In this role he organises the poppy appeal in Banstead including Tattenham & Preston.

He is also Chairman of the highly successful “Music in the Park” which holds a concert every summer in Nork Park. He has held this position for the past 10 years.

In the past he was chairman of the Board of Governors of Epsom Downs Primary School from 2006 to 2017 and Chairman and founder member of the Beacon School Parents Association before becoming the Chairman of the board of Trustees for the Beacon Friends Association.

His personal interests include the theatre, and he currently plays for a cricket team based near Guildford. He also enjoys walking and playing golf.

Tim has taken a particular interest in achieving a safe, clean and orderly environment for our residents. With this in mind he has been working with our local litter pickers and council staff to reduce litter and fly tipping within our area. He has also been looking at improving road safety, particularly speeding on our roads.

Barry Nash lives in Preston and moved into the area in 2020 from Ewell Village. He was previously a Residents Association Councillor for Epsom & Ewell where he was chairman of the Community & Wellbeing Committee for five years.

Barry started his working life in the Royal Marines and more recently worked in mobile telecoms with Vodafone and Ericsson, before moving into education and charity work supporting disengaged teenagers. He is married to Kim with two children

Barry’s main concerns are ensuring good health provision and feeling safe in the ward, as well as protecting the parks and open spaces.

Both candidates bring a wealth of experience to the Residents Association and, we hope to the Council if they are elected in May. Both will be available at our AGM later this month and will be pleased to answer any questions residents may have.
