Our AGM took place via Zoom on the 2nd of December it was a well supported meeting, which generated a number of interesting questions. We had a representative of the local police present for some of the time during the meeting.
Detective Sergeant Vinny Wagjiani introduced himself as the new Neighbourhood Sergeant in charge of the Neighbourhood Team in the North of the Borough. He spoke with determination and genuine enthusiasm about his role. Believing in intelligence led policing he intends to create a framework within which his team would have more autonomy to deal with local incidents. He intends to have close contact with the community keeping them appraised of situations and on going developments.
Speeding – He is looking at setting up a Community Speedwatch with a view to targeting specific areas and took note from residents citing speeding problems within the borough including Fir Tree Road, Epsom Lane North, Shawley Way and Great Tattenhams. One resident suggested there was a circuit the racers were using and suggested this should be looked at.
Drugs – He intends to prevent and reduce drug taking and the use of NOS canisters by contacting registered keepers of vehicles regularly seen in the areas. They will be made aware their visits have been noted, and let them know that they are being watched and their activities in the area are being monitored.
Catalytic Converters – Theft of catalytic converters is on the increase in the Borough, most recently at Banstead Golf Club and Asda Burgh Heath car park. D.S. Wagjiani is arranging posters about this type of theft for the area, to make people more aware of the problem and help them spot it. Scrap metal dealers are also to be contacted as the law requires scrap metal dealers to pay for these high value materials using bank transfer and cards only. Avoiding paying by cash will hopefully reduce the number of businesses where the materials can be sold . See more here.
