The MYTI Club

The County Council has stopped providing general youth work, and is looking to the voluntary sector to take over. The County Council is in discussions with a number of organisations to assume the role of hosting the Phoenix Youth Centre.

On an interim basis, since summer 2019, a new local organisation, the MYTI Club has taken up the baton, running a youth club on Fridays during term time – 3pm to 6pm, and school holidays – 10am to 4pm.

The work of the MYTI Club has been severely limited by Covid-19, but it did run an October half-term football school in partnership with Active Surrey. 50 local young people attended the sessions at the Three pitches. Friday evening football has restarted from 5pm to 6pm for year 7 and 8s one week, and year 9 and 10 the next week.

The club is managed by local volunteers and employs 3 youth work professionals who work alongside the volunteers to ensure a cohort of 8 to 14 year olds are engaged in positive activities.

The Club needs support from local people and businesses to sustain its very positive start, and now has over 150 members signed up. MYTI attracts 60 plus young people in term time and is looking for volunteers to help with a range of activities. People who could help with arts, drama and music would be particularly welcome .
