Little Squirrels Adventures for Toddlers
If you care for toddlers aged from eighteen months to four years you may be interested in this unique opportunity being offered by Surrey Outdoor Learning & Development.
Based in the Forest School at High Ashurst Outdoor Education Centre in Mickleham, Little Squirrels offers weekly two-hour sessions for parents and toddlers to explore and enjoy the wonders of the natural world.
The centre has a beautiful mud kitchen, water play areas and a digging quarry area. There are ropes to play on, a swing and logs and seesaws for climbing and jumping. They often see minibeasts and other creatures such as toads and Roman Snails, rabbits and pheasants whilst exploring.
Each session has a craft activity, singing with the Little Squirrel puppet and a fire with hot chocolate and a Jaffa Cake. Children learn to use tools and make a fire safely as well as learning about trees, plants, and animals. It’s a special place and provides a special experience.
Although these sessions are for both parent and toddler to participate together, they are supervised by qualified instructors
High Ashurst, in Mickleham (between Leatherhead and Dorking) is one of three locations run by Surrey Outdoor Learning and Development, part of Surrey County Council. It works with young people and adults to achieve their aims through outdoor learning activities. It offers residential and day sessions for schools and provides a wide range of activities for young people and families.
But these parent and toddler sessions are designed for the very young and are held on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 9:45 to 11:45 am. They cost £12 per session and must be booked in advance. You can book a block of sessions or, subject to availability, individual bookings. If you are interested, it might be a good idea to book a taster session and see how it goes.
