News and tips from our local trainers by Caroline Baldock

Well, the Flat season is nearing to a close and we wave a fond farewell to Frankie Dettori aged 52. He has been a great ambassador for the sport and on his last day at Ascot won impressively, two races: the Champion Stakes on King of Steel and the Quipco British Champions long distance Cup on Trawlerman. A triumphal last day -the crowds cheered and cheered. Someone said at the event the horses put their hooves to their ears! But there is no such thing as a vacuum, and I am sure another star will rise to take his place.

Frankie Dettori at Ascot
Michael Attwater has had a good season with some good runners. Watch out for Mary of Modena and Street Parade. Also watch out for Horizon who has won for him and Big Bear Hug and Daisy Roots, she is a classic little winner.
Jim Boyle’s Buy the Dip won along with Otago at Brighton. They will do that again and look out for Chinthurst and Hodler.
Roman Tempest won for Simon Dow and looks to be a good Autumn horse. And watch out for Ectocross and Mug Mug Guapo. They have promise and Arenas Del Tempo is a lovely horse and likely to win again shortly.
Lee Carter has a nice horse in Sir Sedric, keep an eye on him.
Pat Phelan has Dotties Star and Blue Curacao are both on the nudge and worth keeping an eye on. Bowman is back in training and is one nice horse. I watched him on the gallops, and he can move. So keep an eye out for him too.
Bret Johnson has a filly called Lucy Lightfoot; she may well come in a little closer than 4th.
Of course I am sure you all watched the Nunthorpe and Live in the Dream winning. Well he went off to the Breeders Cup and ran a very credible 4th – was out in front for quite a way and just got overtaken at the post. We wait to hear how he is getting on in other races over in the States.

So those are my tips for this month. Good hunting and enjoy the all-weather season.
