News and tips from our local trainers by Caroline Baldock

We have a new trainer in Epsom, Carig Benton, and I am sure he will have winners flying off the cards soon. I went down to visit him, and the Limes is immaculate now, all refurbished. He has bought his head lad from Hong Kong with him.

Well the Epsom Spring meeting  did not yield up any local winners, Paddy Bradley had a nasty accident on Jim Boyle’s horse Card Shark in the 4.30 on Tuesday 24th as it caught its leg in an upright, flicked it out seemed to nearly fall, then was fine but Paddy had no chance, and the horse literally galloped over him.  Card Shark seemed to recover all right, I am hoping so did Paddy.

Michael Attwater is well ahead in the lists with 11 winners, so he is worth watching. Obviously, he is on form at the moment.  He had a winner in Come on John and Bluesy Moon looks good to go.  Blue Universe is a hurdler and has some form now, so watch out for him.

Look out for Adam West’s horses, Gilbert and Daisy Roots look good to watch. He has Violets Star and Equador in at Goodwood on the 4th May.  Tangled Up in Blue will run in May but not sure if it will be the 1st May or the 2nd May.  Martin Spirit and Tom Cannon are also worth watching.

Watch out for Thursday he is a nice horse and Simon Dow will be running him again soon.  Pat Phelan has Devises and Charles Morin worth watching.

Don’t forget we have had a very cold spring and a very wet winter. This does make some horses a little slow to come into their coats. For the staff it has been a nightmare of a winter.  They are remarkable people who battle against the odds.

That concludes our tips for May, don’t forget the Derby June 1st – get your tickets now.
