During the school summer holidays Tattenhams Community Library will again be encouraging children to take part in The Summer Reading Challenge. Organised by The Reading Agency and funded by Arts Council England its purpose is to encourage reading for primary school children.

One in five children cannot read well by the age of 11. The Summer Reading Challenge, with the support of public libraries, is on a mission to change this!
Each year the Challenge motivates over 700,000 children of all abilities to read for enjoyment over the summer holidays.
Primary school children can sign up for free at Tattenhams Library from the 8th July.
How the Summer Reading Challenge works
- Children sign up for free at the library and receive a fun pack including a score card to record their reading achievements.
- They are given a reading goal of six books during the summer holidays and borrow books of their choice from the library.
- They should read one book at a time and when they have finished, report back to the library so that their score card can be completed, collecting special stickers and incentives along the way.
- Library volunteers will help children to discover new books that suit their interests and reading levels.
- Children who meet their reading goal and complete the Challenge are presented with a certificate and a medal.
