During the recent school holidays the volunteers at Tattenham Community Library entertained over 200 children during 11 “Summer Fun” events. We believe this was considerably more than any other Surrey library.

These free events were financed by the volunteers from sources such as the sale of second-hand books. Pam Lomas and Liz Townsend led eight craft sessions including creating paper mâché models, dinosaurs and unicorns, windmills and seaside summer bunting. Leslie Sedgewick led two drama workshops and a teddy bears’ picnic was held on the grass behind the library.

But the last session, making Rain Sticks on the 24th August, led by Liz Townsend, proved the most successful. Once they had completed their Rain Sticks, the children were urged to go out in their gardens and shake them for all them for all they were worth. And the next day we had our first real rain for months. She must have magical powers!
