Local artist nearly brains herself with studio lamp
Rue Stanley, Surrey artist builds studio at Tattenham Corner. Opens June 2021 For six days in June, Rue will open her new studio to members of the public as part of the Surrey Artists Open Studio’s program.
Rue decided she had outgrown the space in her house after being hit on the head with a studio lamp. Being at home more over the last year she had time to think. Watching artists at work in their studios on the telly engendered studio envy and when the lamp fell – it was time to act. Rue is a mixed media artist who uses acrylics, gold, glass, and collage in an unconventional way. She is known for her vibrant mixed media artworks inspired by nature and her travels. Her work has a very textured and luscious appearance which is very tactile. Her latest collection is inspired by tribesman, actor and storyteller, Antonio Bolivar Salvador of Brazil and features abstract interpretations of the Lords of the forest: the jaguar and the snake god Anaconda.
At Rue’s garden studio visitors will be able to view demonstrations, buy affordable artwork from £25- £800, and enjoy the atmosphere of beautiful Epsom Downs.
The studio opens on the 6th June and will be open from 11am-5pm on the 7th, 11th, 12th,18th & 19th June

After Open Studios has ended Rue will be exhibiting her collection at Denbies Winery in Dorking with the First for Art group from the 21st – 27th June
Rue’s studio was completed May 2021 and this is her first year of opening with the Surrey Artists Open Studio’s program. Rue is an independent artist who has been successfully exhibiting in Surrey for two years and has sold her work locally and internationally. Rue exhibits at Denbies Winery in Dorking regularly with an exhibition organisation called First for Art.
