Royal British Legion 1921 – 2021
The Royal British Legion celebrated its 100th anniversary this May.
National and regional events were held on the 15th May, including the one in London, and at Guildford cathedral. Sadly few of us were able to attend these, so on this important anniversary, the Banstead and District RBL Branch also held a short, private commemorative service after which the All Saints bells tolled 100, and the Mayor laid a commemorative wreath at the War Memorial.
Due to Covid rules numbers had to be strictly limited so we were unable to make a general invitation, but a small display was raised in The Orchard, Banstead High Street.
We are grateful to the scores of helpers and volunteers who have also put up large Poppies on the lamp posts along much of the A217 in the north of our Borough, and along Banstead High Street, Tadworth, Walton and Kingswood to demonstrate our local support for the Legion.
