Residents may recall that in 2018 there were some changes to our Ward Boundaries. Our boundaries were changed to include the old Preston Ward and we lost part of the Tattenham Corner area to Nork.

Further changes are being planned, but this time at parliamentary level. The Boundary Commission is considering changes to the areas covered by Members of Parliament. There are no plans to reduce the number of MPs, but adjustments to borders are being considered to take account of population changes within MP’s constituencies. There also seems to be an element of tidying up borders to link parliamentary constituencies to local authority boundaries.

What this will probably mean to us is losing Chris Grayling as our MP and replacing him with Crispin Blunt. Grayling will lose Tattenham & Preston and Nork and gain Leatherhead This current review will be reporting to parliament in 2023 but have already published their proposals.

If this goes through as planned, we will form part of a new constituency called “Reigate County Constituency” that will include most of the Borough of Reigate and Banstead with the exception of the southern area which will be part of the Dorking and Horley County Constituency.

Crispin Blunt has been a Conservative MP since 1997. Before becoming a politician, he had a military career as a Captain in the 13th/18th Royal Hussars. He is also uncle to actress Emily Blunt!
