Our local Litter Pickers were announced as winner of the #LitterHeros award at the Keep Britain Tidy annual conference held in Birmingham on the 10th February. They beat over 50 entries and two other finalists, Pick Deal Clean and Wirral Wombles, to win this prestigious award open to all local authorities in the country.
Sponsored by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council the four founder members if the group. Alison Godden, Lisa Davies, Sharon Cranfield, and Juliet Quartermain attended the award ceremony in Birmingham.

Tadworth Walton & Burgh Heath Litter Pickers started out in August 2020. Alison Godden was upset by the amount of litter around the streets and decided to do something about it. She put up a Facebook post asking for volunteers to litter pick. It started with a local group of friends and has grown to a Facebook group of over 500 and more than 100 regular litter pickers covering Tadworth, Walton on the Hill, Kingswood, Lower Kingswood, and Burgh Heath. This also includes Preston and Tattenham Corner, but their name is long enough already!
They recently met on the Tadworth roundabout for a celebratory photograph.

Since 2020 they have collected over 3,000 sacks of litter. The Council supports the group by providing purple sacks, pickers, gloves, and hi-vis vests and arrange to collect the filled sacks. Volunteers go out on their own around their local area or in groups to blitz an area. You can follow the group on Facebook at #cleanuptadworth.
More volunteers are welcome. You can spend as much or as little time collecting litter to suit you. Some just collect around their own homes whilst group picks are sometimes organised. But, in particular, a coordinator is needed for the Preston area. This involves helping new recruits and providing equipment. If you are interested in volunteering in our area, just as a picker or the coordinator role, send an email to John Aslen (johnaslen@aol.co.uk) who is the local coordinator for Tattenham Corner.
