The Tattenham Corner Community (TCC) committee organised a Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea on Sunday 5th June at the Phoenix Youth Centre

TCC is a local community group with the goal of helping local people in the community. Over the years it has been responsible for the Summer Fairs and Christmas Markets held at Tattenham Corner. It also joined with the Residents Association to finance and install out new flagpole.

Older residents, especially those who live alone were invited and delivered to us by taxi. It was a really great afternoon despite some technical hitches – getting the oven to work and moving the pool table. But we quickly overcame them, and we were ready to greet our guests by 2 pm.

They enjoyed sandwiches, scones, the beautiful jubilee biscuits (decorated by Liz Lord) and jubilee iced cup cakes with, of course, copious cups of tea!

They were entertained by lovely ballads sung by The “Sing’ Community Choir and older songs such as “We’ll gather lilacs in the spring again” sung by Tricia Rutter, who had traveled down from up north, by train, especially. They loved all the golden oldies and joined in for a fun sing along before we stood to sing for the Queen.

Keith Nelson had prepared a Jubilee Quiz and Des Williamson acted as quiz master. Their knowledge was impressive!

Our guests left at 4.30pm with extra food goodies and a Busy Lizzy plant. It was a truly memorable occasion for us as the TCC team but very hard work which we only achieved because of our last-minute helper, Nicole Collett, who stepped in to do loads of washing up and help serve the feast.

Tattenham Corner Community reaches out to the local people around our community. Our committee is now very much reduced in numbers. If anyone would like to join us to get realistically creative about future events, we would love to have you.
