We have reported on Furnistore before but as a local charity finding homes for unwanted furniture, we felt it was time for an update.
Based in Redhill, Furnistore was founded in 1995 to provide furniture free of charge to families in need in East Surrey. Today it has three key objectives:
- to support the community by providing affordable furniture and household goods to those in need,
- to provide support and work experience for volunteers, of all capabilities, many of whom are able to obtain paid work after volunteering with them, and
- to divert furniture and household goods to re-use, preventing them from going to landfill.

From a warehouse showroom on the Homethorpe Industrial Estate, Redhill, it receives unwanted furniture, appliances, soft furnishings and bric-a-brac such as crockery and utensils which is then made available free of charge for families most in need. This need may have arisen due to a council housing situation, homelessness, refuge, or because individuals or families have fallen on hard times.

Remaining items are then available at a 50% discount price to anyone who is on means tested benefits and lastly anyone can buy items at a full but still reasonable price.
If you have any unwanted furniture in reasonable condition, Furnistore will collect it from you free of charge. You can telephone 01737 773133 or preferably email a photo of what you plan to donate to enquiry@furnistore.co.uk
And if you are looking to buy any second-hand furniture their showroom is open from 10 to 4 Monday to Saturday. To find out more visit their website:
