Shopping
Although Epsom town centre is not part of our borough, it is our nearest shopping centre and we feel sure that residents would like to keep up with what has been going on.
The closing of the House of Fraser department store in the Ashley Centre must have been a concern to shoppers and a serious impact on the future of Epsom as a shopping centre. The centre was opened in 1984 by Her Majesty the Queen.

It is therefore good news to report that Primark will be opening a new store, probably in early 2024. There will also be a number of other store changes and a rebranding exercise. The Ashley Centre will become “Ashley Centre – Epsom” with a new stylised “A” and colour scheme.
Current information suggests that the centre will have a full overhaul over the next year. The toilets will be upgraded, the main entrance remodelled and enhanced lighting, fire detection and CCTV systems installed. The existing ceilings are also to be replaced with a wooden beam design. It is planned to conduct building work at night to avoid disruption to shopping.
Primark will occupy the old House of Fraser and New Look premises and a new enlarged JD Sports store will occupy the sites formally occupied by H & M and Thomas Cook.
The managers of the Centre hope that the forthcoming ULEZ restrictions will encourage shoppers currently visiting Kingston, Croydon or Sutton will make Epsom their destination of choice.
Old Epsom Police Station
The old Epsom Police Station has been closed for over ten years since the operations moved to Epsom Town Hall.
There are now plans to build a new care home on the site. This would be a three to five story building with an underground car park that will provide a 96-bed care home including a dementia unit.
There have been previous plans over the years for a residential development but none have proceeded so far.
