Banstead Common Conservators (BCC) are looking for volunteers to help with their conservation  work. BCC looks after  the four areas of common land in the northern part of the Borough of Reigate & Banstead.

Burgh Heath, Banstead Heath, Banstead Downs and Park Downs  comprise 1,350 acres that are protected by the Metropolitan Commons (Banstead) Supplemental Act which was passed in 1893. The Conservators are tasked with protecting and maintaining these four areas. There is a detailed article about them on our website (see link below)

There are three Winter Work Parties planned in November and December where BCC would welcome volunteers.

No prior experience is necessary, and staff will run through a risk assessment at the start of the session which will include how to use your tools safely. They ask that you come prepared for working outdoors, wearing sturdy boots and suitable clothing for the weather on the day.  You should also bring your own gardening gloves, a packed lunch and water.  They will provide “ good company, hand tools, hot refreshments, laughter and snacks!”

If you are able to help out, and get some fresh air and exercise too, please let Lucy at BCC know that you are attending by emailing her at bansteadcommons@aol.com.  Please note, that work parties will be cancelled in adverse weather conditions.

Even if you can’t make any of these dates but would be interested in getting involved in the future, you can contact the BCC with a request to join their volunteer list.
